Under the glass roof of the Halle Saint-Pierre, peculiar art, anti-bourgeois art, anti-standard art has found the most merciful shelter. Proof of it once again with the “Chicago, a home for outsider art” exhibition. The latter comes straight from the United States where it has been designed by INTUIT, a museum in Chicago devoted to outsider and intuitive art.
The idea? Reproducing the entire art liveliness of the northern city in the US through works completed by ten emblematic artists such as Henry Darger, William Dawson, Lee Godie, Mr. Imagination, Aldo Piacenza, Pauline Simon, Drossos Skyllas, Dr. Charles Smooth, Wesley Wills and Joseph E. Yoakum.
After exploring French raw art and very recently Japanese raw art, the Halle Saint Pierre takes us to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean for travel through the craziest formal experiments in the American 20th century. With a permanent feature: a strong interest of the displayed artists in Folk Art, meaning the traditional popular art. We notice their practice paired with a certain love for outdoor areas, gardens, courtyards and streets…
Modern, bold and invigoratingly powerful: an exhibition you don’t want to miss!
