Open in June 2018, the Giacometti Institute in Paris 14th arrondissement (a walking distance from the Fondation Cartier!) invites us in a very lovely area devoted to sculptures, drawings and paintings conducted by Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (1901 – 1966), dialoging with a program of modern and contemporary art exhibitions.
This year, the place doubles up as something very new: the Giacometti Lab. The idea? Housing teaching programs open to all, shaped like conferences and study days (held by the Giacometti Institute and the Ecole des Modernités, programme de recherche en histoire de l’art moderne – School of Modernities, modern art history research program). The purpose? Enabling the general public to understand better the time during which Giacometti lived and worked.
First and unmissable event: the study day called “Le destin des femmes artistes à la période moderne” [The fate of female artists in the modern area], on Wednesday May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
It means a feminist re-reading of the history of modern art in Paris: the careers of several female artists came to study in Parisian will be studied. Lecturers and contributors are: Christian Alandete, Eva Belgherbi, Claire Boisserolles, Emilie Bouvard, Yasna Bozhkova, Serena Bucalo-Mussely, Hugo Daniel, Catherine Gonnard, Marion Sergent and Charlotte Foucher Zarmanian.
