The Giacometti Institute reopens with In Search of Lost Works - our pictures

Despite the coronavirus, the Institut Giacometti has announced that it will reopen its doors on Friday May 15, 2020! The museum is finally able to emerge from this confinement and invites fans of the artist to come and discover its new exhibition, A la recherche des oeuvres disparues, extended until June 21, 2020. A fascinating investigation on the trail of unpublished works by Giacometti!

TheInstitut Giacometti reopens its doors on May 15, 2020, much to our delight, despite the coronavirus epidemic. To celebrate this deconfinement, from May 15 to 18, the institute is free for residents of Paris' XIV arrondissement. To visit the A la recherche des œuvres disparues exhibition, however, you need to reserve your place on the Foundation's website, as the government imposes a maximum gathering limit of ten people in public places. As for theexhibition, it plunges you into an investigation"in the footsteps of Alberto Giacometti's lost sculptures from 1920 to 1935", which runs until June 21.

Visits will take place in groups of ten, every 20 minutes. These groups will be distributed throughout the building to avoid crossing paths. Visitors will also be asked to wear masks and follow safety instructions. As for free admission, this will also be extended to students and under-18s. Works really gone? Not really... And for good reason: the artist left"precious documented testimonies", enabling the Institut to present little-known works for the very first time. Works by the artist that were sold and then forgotten, lost or destroyed, the history of which is retraced here. Visitors can discover Giacometti's beginnings, his apprenticeship in art and his artistic research , through photos, documents and reconstructions.

Also of note is the presence of artist-in-residence Douglas Gordon, who will accompany the museum's reopening as an associate artist, and propose a reflection with the Institut on the "after". This original collaboration inaugurates"a new form of long-term residency, and will result in various interventions on the site and in the programming". As for his exhibition, scheduled for May 2020, it has been postponed until next year.

It's also an opportunity to learn more about the evolution of the artist's sculptures, culminating in the emblematic works exhibited at theInstitut.
