Marc Riboud and his camera explored Europe and the Orient, keeping an eternal record of all their travels. The photographer decided to bequeath his entire body of work to the Musée des Arts Asiatiques Guimet, which is dedicating its first retrospective to him. The exhibition Histoires possibles, which retraces the photographer's career and life, can be (re)discovered from May 19 to September 6, 2021.
An indefatigable observer and humanist, Marc Riboud's gaze was unblinkered, but always with a great deal of love for his fellow human beings. Marc Riboud traversed the 20th century, its conflicts and dramatic events, camera in hand. He has left us hundreds of magnificent, powerful images, testimonies to the great moments and small details of modern history.
The French artist worked for theMagnum agency and has traveled extensively in Asia. Although he has witnessed serious and important events, he retains a great tenderness for human beings. This hope for humanity is reflected in his work: Marc Riboud often puts the people he meets at the heart of his pictures.
In his black-and-white photographs, the artist plays with perspective, seeking the harmony of symmetry or the strength of disordered compositions. All these works can be discovered to our great delight in a single, large exhibition, brought together for the first retrospective devoted to Marc Riboud. Will you join him on his travels?
