Paul Signac is the focus of the exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart-André, on view from May 19 to July 19, 2021. Discover some sixty works from an exceptional private collection, signed by the painter and his colleagues: Camille Pissarro, Maximilen Luce, Théo Van Rysselberghe, Henri-Edmond Cross, Georges Seurat and many others. Treat yourself to a beautiful interlude and discover the Paul Signac exhibition.
Following a chronological itinerary, the paintings presented retrace the career of the master of landscape painting and leading theoretician of Divisionism. The first Impressionist works show the influence of Claude Monet , before evolving into his last, resolutely innovative and colorful paintings, the starting point for numerous artistic movements such as Pointillism, Fauvism and Abstract Art.
The vivid, colorful paintings and the choice of landscapes make this collection a short journey, a summer break in the South of France, which Paul Signac represented so many times. Many of the paintings were done in Saint-Tropez during the summer, while the rest of the year was spent in Paris and Brittany, contrasting sharply with the lightness of the South.
Part of the exhibition is devoted to the Neo-Impressionist painters and their development. Here we find paintings by Camille Pissarro, Louis Hayet, Achille Laugé and, in particular, the most famous of them all: Théo Van Rysselbeghe, Henri-Edmond Cross and Maximillien Luce.
A wonderful exhibition not to be missed, set in the sublime surroundings of the Musée Jacquemart-André, which can also be visited.
