It's a little-known country, and wrongly so: it has a fascinating history and an infinitely rich culture and heritage. So it's time to put it in the spotlight: the Musée Guimet is organizing an exhibition to introduce us to Tajikistan. Entitled Tajikistan, Land of Golden Rivers, the exhibition runs from October 13, 2021 to January 10, 2022.
Situated at the heart of the Middle East, Tajikistan is a crossroads of cultures. Its history has been strongly influenced byCentral Asia since ancient times, and by the movement of people across the continent. Its natural riches have attracted many peoples in search of precious stones such as ruby and lapis lazuli.
This exhibition takes us on a journey through the history of Tajikistan, a country shaped by the many ethnic groups that have passed through it. From prehistory to the arrival of Islam and Buddhism, from archaeological sites to intangible cultural legacies, we embark on an incredible cultural journey of spellbinding magnificence.
The Musée Guimet has been able to benefit from a number of exceptional loans, with pieces coming from various museums: the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan, the National Museum of Tajikistan, the British Museum, which is exceptionally sending its works from the Oxus temple, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France are all taking part in this exhibition.
Art and history merge to form one, and tell the captivating story of Tajikistan. Trade and cultural routes have crossed over the centuries, creating a unique civilization.
The Musée Guimet promises a journey full of surprises and discoveries. Will you be there?
