A French philosopher, Gaston Bachelard was particularly interested in creation and the imagination, and in the relationship between art and science, and how these two disciplines can nurture or oppose each other. His reflections have inspired many artists, who today pay tribute to the thinker.
La Fab. is organizing a contemporary art exhibition to mark the 60th anniversary of the philosopher's death. The exhibition, entitled Bachelard contemporain, celebrates the work of the French thinker, and highlights his influence. Nearly twenty French and international artists and numerous works are brought together in this exhibition, on view from February 17 to April 30, 2023.
Air, earth, water, fire, science and imagination: these are the foundations around which the philosopher's thinking is organized. Gaston Bachelard wrote numerous essays on these concepts, seeking to understand how each of them is used in the process of artistic creation. To enrich his theories, the philosopher took a close interest in the work of the artists of his day, particularly the Surrealists.
Could imagination and creation be nourished by elementary materials, as Gaston Bachelard thought? What's certain is that these elements have inspired the artists exhibited at La Fab. Installations, sculptures, photographs, videos, drawings and paintings... The works highlighted in this exhibition perfectly illustrate the idea that reality gives life to the world of dreams and imagination.
Come and discover this unique exhibition, which brings together some of the world's greatest contemporary artists, including Christian Boltanski, Yves Klein, Hermione Volt, Roman Signer and Félicie d'Estienne d'Orves. Art and philosophy mix at La Fab!
