For the first time, the Japanese artist Sawako Kabuki presents a solo exhibition in Europe. And it is at the Miyu gallery that it is organized! Come and discover the uninhibited and colorful universe of this artist inspired by the body and sexual and love relationships.
The exhibition Butt Therapy, presented from February 24 to April 8, 2023, gathers about twenty drawings, as well as four short animated films made by the Japanese artist.
Sawako Kabuki has a very recognizable style, all in curves, with simple lines and bright colors. In a few strokes, the artist draws these naked women and these bodies offered to the glance of all. Desire, passion, food or relaxation: the drawer is always inspired by these " four necessities - or desires - of life, such as food, sex, sleep (relaxation) and excretion."
So she multiplies the bodies, staging them to symbolize these primitive instincts. These uninhibited works address without taboo the issues of sexuality, menstruation, bulimia, toxic relationships ... For the artist, drawing these women has a relaxing, therapeutic effect: she invites us to join this curious therapy, immersing ourselves in these hypnotic works, full of surprises.
Amusing, attractive, shameful, cathartic: these drawings also confront us with our own relationship to the body and to nudity. This fascinating exhibition can be an opportunity to lift some taboos and to reconcile ourselves with our bodies!
