Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Jimi Hendrix, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg... Many (very) African-American artists have reached the status of music legends: they have revolutionized their genre, by their voice, their lyrics, their music, their talent.
It is therefore not surprising that journalist and photographer Frédéric Ragot decided to pay tribute to them with a photo exhibition presented at the Café de la Danse.
From February 17 to June 30, 2023, if you have a concert scheduled in this Parisian venue, arrive well in advance: you will have the opportunity to admire the exhibition Black (and white) Music: an exhibition of black and white photographs, telling the story of black music from the United States.
Through these portraits and scenes taken on the spot, the photographer makes us relive the great moments of black music. Jazz, soul, gospel, blues, but also hip-hop, rap or RnB: legendary artists have appropriated each musical genre to create new sounds, new rhythms, a new style. Over the years, through singers and musicians, black music has evolved to give birth to unusual genres that have conquered the world.
This exhibition makes us relive a whole page of History: we follow the musical notes from the slave period to the XXIst century, meeting those who found their freedom in music.
A beautiful exhibition for all music lovers, to see without waiting.
