Lovers of culture in all its forms, here's a great event for you! On Saturday, July 1, 2023, head to the Collège des Bernardins for the Grand Jardin Culturel 2023 organized by Arts in the City magazine. The Gothic vaults of one of the capital's oldest medieval monuments, in the heart of the Latin Quarter, welcome you to discover this garden made up of thousands of daisies and colorful spheres.
The magazine's aim is to celebrate all cultural institutions and show that art is accessible and alive. Thanks to this free, ephemeral garden, culture is no longer a luxury, but a gift for all. "The Grand Jardin Culturel is the only event to bring together all the players involved in culture: museums, theaters, monuments, theaters and cinemas. It's a first in France!" enthuses Fleur Baudon, co-founder of Arts in the City.
On July 1, from 2.30pm, visitors will be able to pick a balloon from among the 2,500 floating in the 6-metre-high Gothic nave of the Bernardins, like so many hanging flowers. Each balloon (recyclable, recycled and eco-certified) picked entitles the holder to a cultural surprise. It could be a ticket to a museum or historic monument, an invitation to a show or a cinema ticket: it's up to chance!
Among the 50 institutions taking part in the event are the Petit Palais, the Museum of Modern Art, the Monnaie de Paris, the Musée Grévin, the Fondation Cartier, the Grand Palais Immersif, the Museum of Natural History and the brand-new Cité de l'Histoire. Heritage lovers will be seduced by the appeal of the monuments, with admission tickets to the Pantheon,Hôtel de la Marine, Conciergerie and Musée de Cluny.
Paris wouldn't be Paris without its many theaters and cabarets, from the sultry Paradis Latin to the emblematic Moulin Rouge and its Revue Féerie. The Théâtre du Palais-Royal, the Théâtre des Variétés and the Comédie Bastille, to name but a few, will complete the ranks of institutions celebrating the performing arts. Cinephiles be warned: cinemas will also be taking part! Each partner of the Grand Jardin Culturel 2023 is offering dozens, and sometimes hundreds, offree invitations!
In addition to receiving attractive gifts, visitors will be able to enjoy a sensory and contemplative experience in one of the capital's most beautiful monuments. Please note, however, that only adults will be able to pick up balloons; children will still be able to accompany their parents and take part in a workshop to learn how to reuse balloons ad infinitum.
