The Domaine départemental de Sceaux delights art lovers and the curious with its new exhibition, presented from September 15, 2023 to March 17, 2024, at the estate's former stables. The exhibition, entitled Allegoria, the keys to Baroque symbolism, takes us on a voyage of discovery intoBaroque art, revealing the secrets of this movement characterized by its exuberance and richness.
Born in Italy, the Baroque movement arrived in France during the reign of Louis XIV. Initially frowned upon, the Baroque quickly conquered all artistic fields, from painting toarchitecture and music. The Domaine de Sceaux exhibition focuses on a selection of paintings, drawings and prints by the great Italian and French masters. On the walls of the former stables, we find works by Claude Vignon, Cesare Ripa, Simon Vouet, Jacques Blanchard, Laurent de La Hyre, Philippe de Champaigne, Jean Tassel, Charles Le Brun, Pierre Mignard, Jean Jouvenet, Antoine Coypel...
The exhibition aims to forge links between Baroque artists from different countries, to bring out the common, universal language that bound these creators together.
Through these works, we learn to recognize characters, objects, colors and motifs charged with symbolism. These allegories make it possible to tell complex stories in a single drawing. By studying the works of the masters of the genre, we can easily decode this mysterious language. Baroque art will soon hold no secrets for you!
From September 2023, come and visit the Allegoria exhibition, and plunge into the extravagant and enigmatic world of the Italian and French Baroque.
