Until 2026, the Petit Château of the Domaine départemental de Sceaux will be home to the Mission de préfiguration du Musée du Grand Siècle. Pending the opening in Saint-Cloud, a number of free exhibitions are planned to bring the place to life, thanks to works from the Pierre Rosenberg donation and other acquisitions, within the château built in 1660. As in a collector's private home, come and discover, from October 13, 2023 to March 30, 2024, paintings, sculptures, objets d'art and furniture, including strange pieces of Murano glass, which take the form of animals!
For this new temporary exhibition, a hundred animals created in Murano glass demonstrate Venetian craftsmanship and the beauty of animal sculpture from the 1930s to the 1990s. The finest glass artists created superb, colorful, larger-than-life animals, fragile because of their material, but highly resistant over time. Since 1920, contemporary artists have played a fundamental role in the development of small-scale decorative glass sculpture, particularly in the representation of animals.
The exhibition is rounded off by a series of lectures, events and workshops for children, including balloon sculpting and family modeling. Elephants, peacocks, ducks, fish, in blown or solid glass, come and discover the diversity of these sculptures from Italy!
