On the Road to the Orient follows in the footsteps of French photographer Marc Riboud and his American colleague Steve McCurry, as they travel the same road to the Orient, which they each took in turn, almost thirty years apart.
In 1955, Marc Riboud began his long journey to Beijing from Beirut, Lebanon. He made the journey by road, in his Land Rover, crossing Turkey,Iran, the Caspian Sea (by boat),Afghanistan... His black-and-white shots tell the story of this long journey, during which he crossed some of the riskiest zones, including the conflict in Vietnam at the time, and the return of Ayatollah Khomeini to Iran... Steeve Mc Curry set sail from India in 1978, aged just 28. Largely inspired by the images of Marc Riboud, the young American photographer recounts the increasingly globalized East, the conflict in Afghanistan...
