The Musketeers have always fascinated, especially since the release of Martin Bourboulon's films based on the characters of D'Artagnan and Milady. Until February 4, 2024, the Pavillon du Roi at the Château de Vincennes welcomes you free of charge for an exhibition exploring the origins of the myth of these men armed with swords and legendary exploits. The Service historique de la Défense tells the true story of the king's musketeers!
Although Alexandre Dumas made them famous in the collective imagination with his Three Musketeers, these elite fighters were created in 1622 by Louis XIII. The famous d'Artagnan, or rather Charles Batz de Castelmore, comte d'Artagnan, quickly became captain-lieutenant of the company of Musketeers. This historical exhibition retraces his career as accurately as possible, with the help of archive documents, iconography, weapons and uniforms.
This man of confidence of Cardinal Mazarin and later Louis XIV, who died in 1673 during the siege of Maastricht, was accompanied by other musketeers, whose missions evolved over the years. Discover the true lives of these courageous men, whose true story has nothing to envy their fictional doubles. Originally scheduled to run until January 13, 2024, the exhibition has been extended, to the delight of cloak-and-dagger fans!
