With its entrance directly from the banks of the Seine, under the Alexandre III bridge, the Gare des Invalides is almost invisible when you're strolling through the neighborhood. Yet since 1900, when it was opened, it has been put to many uses, including serving the Paris suburbs and even the main lines to Normandy!
Inaugurated for the1900 Universal Exhibition, Gare des Invalides became Air France'sParis terminal in 1946, serving Orly and Le Bourget airports. Since 1979, the station has been served by line C of the RER, which takes passengers from Paris to the suburbs (petite et grande couronne).
