The Drawing Lab, a space dedicated to contemporary art in the heart of Paris, hosts its new exhibition of works by artist Suzanne Husky, Le temps profond des rivières, from January 26 to April 7, 2024. Winner of the prestigious Drawing Now 2023 Prize, this exhibition marks a turning point in the career of Husky, known for her ecological commitment and unique drawing practice. With the support of Galerie Alain Gutharc, this exhibition offers a profound reflection on nature and our relationship with the environment.
Through her work,Suzanne Husky invites us on a journey through natural landscapes, depicting the complexity and beauty of waterways. In collaboration with philosopher Baptiste Morizot, she explores the representation of rivers in art and their ecological importance, revealing their vitality and crucial role in the ecosystem. This dialogue between art and science manifests itself in works combining scientific accuracy and holistic visions, where gouaches, watercolors and inks reveal the forgotten face of healthy rivers. Here, the beaver takes center stage in Suzanne Husky's work, a veritable regulator of ecosystems, and in particular of rivers and streams.
Suzanne Husky 's career has been marked by a constant commitment to environmental issues. Born in 1975 in Bazas, France, she lives and works between Gajac (Gironde) and San Francisco. Since the early 2000s, her critical and militant art has addressed the themes of landscape exploitation and deforestation, while proposing alternatives. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, Husky has exhibited internationally, notably at the De Young Museum in San Francisco and the Villa Médicis. She is also the winner of the first Choi Foundation Prize for Contemporary Art in 2021.
The Drawing Now Prize, awarded during the fair at Carreau du Temple, plays a crucial role in recognizing mid-career artists with a singular drawing practice. With an endowment of 5,000 euros for the artist and 10,000 euros for production support, this prize highlights the importance of galleries in artists' careers. The 2023 selection committee, made up of recognized art world experts, chose Suzanne Husky for her ability to combine technique, form and militant commitment, making her an essential voice in the contemporary art world.
Note that theexhibition is accessible free of charge every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Drawing Lab, with cultural mediation services and workshops for children. It's a unique opportunity to discover Suzanne Husky 's singular universe and immerse yourself in an artistic and ecological reflection. Shall we drop in, folks?
