Every year, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris presents a wide range of events. From concerts and theater to workshops and exhibitions, there's something for everyone. This spring, for its new free installation in its reception hall, the Japanese cultural center is focusing on Mamoru Yokota's solidarity project.
Famed manga and video game illustrator and animator Mamoru Yokota launched the"Mushae" project in Japan in 2012. The idea? To organize a series of exhibitions on the theme of the famous Japanese warrior, the"Musha". In addition to showcasing the work of talented artists, the man who was animation director for the"Naruto","Death Note" anime and"One Piece" films was above all keen to help the traditional"Nomaoi de Sôma" festival and the people of the Fukushima region following the nuclear disaster on March 11, 2011.
After numerous editions and a pause due to the health crisis, the"Mushae" project is coming to Paris, and more precisely to the Maison de la culture du Japon, from March 12 to April 6, 2024. Offered in the form of a selection of 100 drawings exhibited to relaunch the project, this installation unveils the work of several talents, mainly Japanese, but also French. Coming from the world of illustration, manga and animation, they all illustrate the samurai theme in their own way.
All styles are represented, thanks to the fine pencil strokes of Tomida Tomomi, Tutui Misa, Tohyama Maki, Kudo Masashi, Hagiwara Kazushi, Ashitazu Him, Aoi Levin, Asamiya Kia, Maki Koji, Ponkichi, Alessio Fortunato, Benjamin Faure, Luke Uehara and Isabelle Lemaux.
As the icing on the cake, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris is pleased to announce that Mamoru Yokota will be on hand on March 16 for an exclusive meeting and live drawing.
To discover the " Mushae à Paris " solidarity exhibition, head to the Maison de la culture du Japon from March 12 to April 6. The installation, which is free of charge, takes place in the building's ground-floor hall.
