Located on Place de la Concorde, its magnificent loggia offers a unique view of Paris. Opened 3 years ago following a major restoration campaign by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, the Hôtel de la Marine is still little-known to Parisians, despite its central location! Designed in the 18th century to house the Garde-Meuble of the Crown (Louis XV at the time), this splendid monument was the place where the King's - and then the Republic's - finest pieces of furniture were designed and conserved for over 100 years, before the Mobilier National moved in.
The building then became the headquarters of the Ministry and then the Navy Staff, before being moved in 2015, when the Centre des Monuments Nationaux decided to restore it to its original state and turn it into a venue dedicated to the excellence of French craftsmanship.
The Hôtel de la Marine now houses the reconstructed apartments of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, as well as the workshop of Maison d'artisanat Mathieu Lustrerie, which specializes in the restoration, re-edition and creation of exceptional chandeliers, and the Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute!
For spring, the Hôtel de la Marine is offering a host of activities for young and old alike:
From March 19, 2024, visitors will be able to travel back in time through perfume with ODORAMENTO, artist Chantal Sanier's new olfactory tour of the Hôtel de la Marine. The Centre des Monuments Nationaux is offering a unique olfactory experience as part of its tour of the Garde-Meuble stewards' apartments. Artist and scent creator Chantal Sanier aims to stimulate memory and imagination through her unique creations: scented sculptures in cold wax.
As part of Printemps des poètes, the public can rediscover the stewards' apartments and awaken their senses to an eclectic range of texts set to gesture and music. With Lény Guissart and Nicolas Mathieu, CIE 44.
Introduce the whole family to the technique of modeling, as part of the Taste of the Renaissance exhibition. Learn how to work with clay in the style of 16th-century ceramist Bernard Palissy. At the end of the workshop, each participant leaves with a bas-relief to bake at home!
The children's show Romeo and Juliet invites young and old alike to rediscover Shakespeare's text, set to music by Sergei Prokofiev. Produced by Le Balbibus and Compagnie Tortue Théâtre.
The Hôtel de la Marine invites children to an egg hunt in the state rooms. As a family, they'll keep an eye out for the little eggs hidden in the decor.
As part of its3rd participation in the Journées européennes des Métiers d'art, the Hôtel de la Marine invites you to an exceptional meeting with a staff craftsman from the Del Boca workshop, who contributed to the restoration of the 18th-century apartments now open to the public. Following a two-voice guided tour, participants will be able to discover stucco and staff, two materials that can be used to create sometimes highly sought-after moldings and decorations, and will have the opportunity to learn one of the staff techniques.
