The Musée Delacroix offers a new insight into the work of Eugène Delacroix, with a brand-new exhibition running from July 3, 2024 to February 3, 2025. The new exhibition takes the form of a fashion week catwalk, with a display that highlights the painter's relationship with clothing.
Entitled Nu comme habillé. Delacroix et le vêtement, this exhibition tackles the theme ofclothing, examining the artist's choices: which character remains naked, who is dressed, and how?
Various paintings are presented. Fictional characters and portraits are shown side by side, sometimes dressed from head to toe, sometimes nude. The presence or absence of clothing is highly symbolic, and this choice provides us with a wealth of information on the subject, as well as on the style employed in the painting.
Delacroix's clothes also conceal their own symbols. Textures and textiles, colors, details, embroidery, motifs... In a sleeve or collar, we can guess theera, identity and status of the subject depicted. These garments also give us clues as to the sources of inspiration and references used by the artist in his work.
Art lovers and Delacroix enthusiasts, take advantage of this original exhibition to learn a little more about the world and work of the French painter.
