Renowned the world over for centuries as a sign of wealth and good taste, Chinese porcelain has contributed to the country's cultural and craft renown. The Musée Guimet invites you to discover all the secrets of this art, in an exhibition running from June 12 to September 16, 2024.
Au cœur de la couleur, masterpieces of Chinese monochrome porcelain (8th-18th centuries) brings together 250 exceptional pieces, symbolizing Chinese artists' quest for purity and beauty.
Along the way, we can see the evolution of this art, fiercely guarded by China, and which has fascinated societies of all eras. Ten centuries of design are laid out before us, through these different porcelains. Don't be fooled by the simplistic appearance of these creations: great mastery is required to handle porcelain and obtain a pure, monochrome color. These highly advanced techniques remained secret until the 18th century, arousing the envy of the European elite.
The Musée Guimet reveals the art and knowledge of these exceptional potters. The exhibition also explains the symbols and connotations behind these shapes and colors. A variety of works - poems, prints, multimedia animations - complete the tour, revealing the importance of porcelain in Chinese art and culture.
The museum's scenography immerses us in a soothing, zen-like atmosphere that echoes the immaculate porcelain. The gradual gradation of colors, this porcelain rainbow, has a hypnotic effect on our stroll.
A fascinating new exhibition to discover this summer at the Musée Guimet!
