JR unveils his solo show "Dans la Lumière" at Galerie Perrotin, from June 7 to July 27, 2024. This 4th exhibition in Paris and 13th collaboration with Perrotin presents recent works, following on from the CHIROPTERA project on the façade of the Paris Opera last November. Admission is free, so it's a great opportunity not to be missed, especially as the artist promises some surprises.

Internationally renowned artistJR invites us to discover "Dans la Lumière" at Galerie Perrotin from June 7 to July 27, 2024. This free exhibition marks JR's fourth in Paris and thirteenth collaboration with Perrotin. It features a series of recent works, following on from the CHIROPTERA project, carried out on the façade of theParis Opera in November 2023. JR also collaborates with Thomas Bangalter, who presents a sound installation in the Espace Saint-Claude from June 7 to 15.

Born in 1983, JR is a French artist whose work combines art and social action. His works, often monumental, are known for occupying public space in spectacular fashion. Some still remember his monumental, ephemeral work at the Louvre in 2016, where he made the glass pyramid disappear thanks to a giant optical illusion. This work attracted worldwide attention and underlined his talent for transforming iconic locations into veritable living works of art.

In autumn 2023, JR created the "Retour à la caverne" project on the façade of the Opéra Garnier. Taking advantage of the presence of scaffolding, he created a trompe-l'œil stone cavern, opening up an unexpected perspective on this Parisian monument. In November, the cavern was revealed with human handprints, and thousands of spectators attended CHIROPTERA, a collaborative ballet-performance with Damien Jalet and Thomas Bangalter.

The"Dans la Lumière" exhibition at Galerie Perrotin is inspired by this project and continues to explore the themes of light and shadow, essential to JR's work. It features unique films and photographic prints that reproduce the various moments of the CHIROPTERA project on a city-wide scale. JR also experimented with the fusion of several techniques: photographic transfer, black ink on wood and charcoal.

The"Shadow of the Cave" series captures the ballet between prima ballerina Amandine Albisson and her shadow, while "Genome" and "Chromosome" present the configurations of the dancers on the scaffolding. The "Dans la lumière" series symbolizes the liberation of the prisoners from Plato's cave and their return to the light.

JR uses wood as a support, recalling urban palisades and the inscriptions found on them, symbols of reborn life. His message is clear: each of us carries a piece of light that can enlighten the world. " You can't chase darkness away with darkness," confides JR. "Each of us can come out of 'our' cave and become a luminous actor in the world we share."

Don't miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in JR's captivating universe. Admission is free and there are plenty of surprises to be discovered, as the artist confirms, making this exhibition an excellent idea for this summer.
