Decoding Korea: Korean digital and contemporary art unveiled at the Grand Palais Immersif

This summer, the Grand Palais Immersif takes us on a journey to Korea. More specifically, the digital art center invites us to discover the world of 10 Korean artists, in a brand-new, free exhibition, presented from July 26 to August 25, 2024.

The Decoding Korea exhibition brings together 10 contemporary artists from Korea, who recount their daily lives, their fears, their hopes, and the changes taking place in their country, through originalimmersive digital works . The exhibition tour combines virtual reality, artificial intelligence (AI) and mapping, immersing us in Korean culture from the ends of the earth.

Born between the 1960s and the 1990s, the artists in this exhibition have witnessed major changes. Politics, war, cultural and technological revolution: in just a few decades, Korea has undergone profound transformation.

In this exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersif, the artists recount the tensions between North and South Korea, the industrialization and new technologies that have changed the country, the uncertainty of an unknown and unpredictable future, the ecological or social changes that are changing habits...

Korea is revealed in all its richness, contradictions and complexity through the works of these contemporary artists. The creators highlight both their history and their modernity, while highlighting their talent, their creativity and their unique universes.

The works are surprising in both form and content. Bright colors can hide monsters, the world can be revealed in unexpected ways, deep discussions take place on screens... In particular, we were able to test a virtual reality installation, which plunges us into a disturbing, fascinating and frightening dream. A playful and unique experience, which sums up the whole exhibition.
