A street-art exhibition bringing together 80 artists free of charge at theMadeleine church? What a great idea! That's what Galerie Roussard and Codex Urbanus are offering from September 13 to 22, 2024, in the Crypt of the Eglise de la Madeleine.
Street Art Madeleine is the name of this exhibition event, which brings together the work of 80 artists qualified as vandals, offering a total immersion in the world of street art in the heart of Paris.
The good news is that you'll be able to discover works by Chanoir, Codex Urbanus, Steeven Salvat, Jérôme Rasto and many others. These artists, known for their unbridled creativity and ability to transform urban space, are presenting nearly 200 original works. In addition to the exhibition, there will be a number of book signings, where you can meet these often discreet creators, active mainly at night.
Unlike muralism, street art is characterized by its impulsiveness and lack of official authorization. The artists exhibited at Street Art Madeleine work freely, without institutional constraints, giving their works an ephemeral, spontaneous character. Codex Urbanus, for example, has been drawing a fantastic bestiary on Parisian walls for over a decade, creating some 700 ever-changing creatures.
We invite you to pass beneath the Madeleine church and discover a variety of techniques: drawings, paintings, aerosols, collages, photographs, stencils, mosaics, sculptures and installations. The exhibition stands out for the diversity of its works and the creative freedom of the artists.
Galerie Roussard, which was founded in Montmartre and went on the road in 2023, is organizing this event. Renowned for its support of urban art, the gallery has organized several major exhibitions and published reference works. For this exhibition, it is exclusively offering the book Petit Atlas du Street Art de Paris et sa Banlieue à l'Usage du Promeneur et de l'Amateur, featuring the biographies and techniques of the artists exhibited.
