Who hasn't fallen under the spell of Benjamin Lacombe's work? Illustrator, comic book artist and children's author Benjamin Lacombe is back in the news this autumn with the release of Monsieur le Lapin Blanc (Editions Margot). Available in bookshops from October 16, this new album invites us to follow in the footsteps of the little white rabbit, world-famous for his tardiness.
With " Monsieur le Lapin Blanc ", Benjamin Lacombe pays tribute to the adventures of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, a novel that deeply inspired him as an artist.
To mark the occasion, Maison Deyrolle exceptionally opened its doors to the talented illustrator, and organized a small, original installation.
From October 15 to December 2, 2024, he will be unveiling several of his new original works in an exhibition open to all, free of charge. Some fifteengouache and oil originalsare on show for the very first time in a room on the second floor of this scientific and educational institution. Nestled in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Maison Deyrolle is a benchmark in the field of taxidermy and entomology, and attracts many curious visitors and tourists throughout the year.
For this small exhibition featuring some of Benjamin Lacombe's original and recent works, Maison Deyrolle has created an"immersive scenography". In this veritable cabinet of curiosities, the author's illustrations stand alongside naturalized rabbits, lambs and birds. Also, in a post published on his social networks, Benjamin Lacombe specifies that"Deyrolle respects a very strict charter and ethics: all the naturalized animals come from zoos, parks or farms in which they died of old age or disease."
This isn't the first time Maison Deyrolle has welcomed Benjamin Lacombe. In 2020, the institution had already honored the illustrator's universe, on the occasion of the release of his book " Bambi " (published by Albin Michel). He exhibited several of his original drawings from the album. Four years later, Maison Deyrolle reopened its doors to Benjamin Lacombe, this time to celebrate the release of " Monsieur le Lapin Blanc ". In addition to exhibiting these original works, all taken from his new album, Maison Deyrolle also offers exclusive watercolors and art prints for sale.
Benjamin Lacombe, considered by many to be one of the leading exponents of new French illustration, wrote his first comic strip when he was just 19. Since then, Benjamin Lacombe has written and illustrated some fifty books, selling over three million copies worldwide! Given the popularity of his work, Benjamin Lacombe regularly exhibits his work in France and abroad. A new (small) exhibition in Paris, from October 15 to December 2, 2024, at Deyrolle!
