Economic crises, social violence, wars, natural disasters, epidemics, climate change... Every day, the bad news seems to multiply, weighing heavily on the morale and confidence of those who follow the news. Over time, a new "normal" seems to emerge, one where negativity is the norm.
Five contemporary artists from different countries explore this evolution, in an original exhibition presented at the Korean Cultural Center, from November 7, 2024 to February 8, 2025.
The free exhibition Ordinary World brings together a number of works and installations that question, analyze and play with this sense of global chaos. The artists have been inspired by various global catastrophes reported since the Covid-19 pandemic, and have observed how these traumatic events have become the norm.
The reference points and frameworks of society are changing, and humans are having to adapt to this dangerous environment. Through their art, the creators of the Korean Cultural Center explore the limits of this way of life, and question the place of art in these new societies. Can painting, photography or music help us to overcome, understand and accept these catastrophes?
From personal experiences and testimonies to generational and universal themes, the artists express, each in their own way, how art influences their relationship with the world and society. From one country to the next, there are common themes, complementary dialogues and unique testimonials, giving visitors a clearer picture of how the world is evolving, and the place each of us occupies in it.
The Korean Cultural Center'sfree exhibition is a must-see this winter.
