Considered one of the first Baroque painters of the 17th century, Artemisia Gentileschi succeeded in establishing herself in the public eye and in the art world, at a time when women were not really accepted in the highest spheres.
The Musée Jacquemart-André pays tribute to this talented artist, with a groundbreaking exhibition on view from February 14 to June 29, 2025. The exhibition brings together dozens of exceptional paintings.
Internationally renowned, Artemisia Gentileschi was one of the few female painters to achieve such great success, and to be able to make a living from her painting. She trained in the school of Caravaggio, a movement that taught her to add dramatic effects and theatrical settings to make her works more striking.
Artemisia Gentileschi is known for her religious historical paintings, but also for her portraits and heroines. Struck by a violent tragedy in her youth, the artist often portrayed women subjected to male violence. Her personal history and talent for immortalizing emotions have made these paintings remarkable works, highly charged with symbolism.
The exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart-André is a retrospective, highlighting the artist's most important works, as well as his inspirations and influences, such as his father - also a painter - Orazio Gentileschi, and the French painter Simon Vouet.
Immerse yourself in the world of this renowned Italian painter with a new exhibition to be unveiled in the first half of 2025.
