Two exhibitions on nature...Abbaye de Maubuisson invites you to discover its exhibition En deçà de l'invisible from October 6, 2024 to February 23, 2025. More specifically, it features an artistic dialogue between the works of Cécile Beau and Grégoire Scalabre, offering a contemporary approach to nature and craftsmanship in a heritage setting. An invitation to discover what lies beneath the surface, exploring the interactions between matter, darkness, light, point of view and perception.
Cécile Beau, a graduate of theÉcole des Beaux-Arts in Tarbes and Marseille, as well as Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, presents immersive installations inspired by natural and scientific phenomena. She evokes " the depths of the ground's subsurfaces " and "the interplay of wavelengths and frequencies emitted by the stars ", integrating wood, stone and light to question our relationship with the natural world. Her sensory and poetic approach aims to reveal hidden worlds within our perceptible reality.
Here, the artist appropriates the remains of an uprooted tree discovered in the park at Maubuisson to create a work of art, displayed horizontally like a recumbent statue, in which each rib, each eye and each molecule of wood responds to the architecture of the site. The play of light and shadow, as you move through the room, takes you into these fields of the invisible, or rather the non-visible, as light plays with perspective and the perception of colors and textures. The last room takes you into another world, combining vibrations, music and planets, creating "stars" from slices of agate. A unique sensory journey.
Grégoire Scalabre, a ceramist trained at theÉcole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon and theInstitut de Céramique Française in Sèvres, is dedicated to exploring darkness as a material, creating works in porcelain and earthenware. His sculptures emphasize accumulation and density, playing on figures such as the monolith and organic forms where the brilliant glaze contrasts with the twilight atmosphere. Through this exhibition, he offers a " twilight immersion " that, through his ceramic compositions, recalls elusive infra-worlds, " escaping darkness through the brilliance of enamel ".
Two artists and two exhibitions to discover for the occasion. And to discover the Abbey's program during these two exhibitions :
