Our tour of the little villages of Paris continues. After the Butte-aux-Cailles and the green districts of the 13th arrondissement, let's discover the villages of the 14th arrondissement.
The village of Plaisance lives up to its name. Its many streets are perfect for a Sunday afternoon stroll. In fact, as you'll see, it's the favorite neighborhood of many couples with children, who play in front of the district's colorful detached houses. Mainly reserved for pedestrians, the neighborhood's streets and cul-de-sacs are green and full of flowers, and a great place to live. Many artists' studios have been set up here, to take advantage of the peacefulness of the area.
Don't miss rue des Thermophyles in Cité Bauer, the prettiest street in the district. Blossoming in spring, it's a must-see. Wisteria of all colors adorn the walls of the houses, which rival each other in beauty. Take a look at number 19 rue des Thermophyles, where a pretty heart-shaped gate awaits you.
Plaisance' s neighbor is the Petit-Montrouge district. Why not continue your visit to the villages of the 14th arrondissement here? Petit-Montrouge is utterly charming, with its narrow, pedestrian-only cobbled streets and beautifully decorated houses with gardens. It's not for nothing that many artists, such as actor Patrick Dewaere, have lived here. Dewaere ended his life in his house on impasse du Moulin-Vert.
The Petit-Montrouge district boasts a wealth of architecture. From one street to the next, the houses change completely in style. It's a great place to discover architecture!
Montsouris is, of course, a large, beautiful, hilly park, but it's also a pretty neighborhood with an astonishing allure, all around the park. Some houses are built like little chalets, others in Art Deco or Art Nouveau style. Most are covered with climbing ivy and greenery.
Many artists have lived here. Georges Braque, for example. Other artists, such as Le Corbusier and Gilles Buisson, even designed some of the houses. A wealth of history, art and architecture not to be missed.
