Fancy a trip out of time to start December with stars in your eyes? Join us on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Château de Bagatelle, nestled in the heart of Paris's 16th arrondissement, for a unique experience orchestrated by the Friends of Versailles and the Mansart Foundation. This architectural jewel, which has been closed for several years, is exceptionally opening its doors to the public for dramatized tours worthy of Marie-Antoinette's festivities.
In 1777, the Comte d'Artois, the future Charles X, made a crazy bet with his sister-in-law Marie-Antoinette to build a pavilion during the few weeks the court was staying at the Château de Fontainebleau. He had less than 100 days. In just 64 days, with the help of the genius young architect Bélanger, the Château de Bagatelle rose from the ground. Come and admire its neo-Palladian architecture , the work of the finest 18th-century master craftsmen, and discover the succession of owners, each more illustrious than the last - Napoleon, the collector Lord Hertford and the philanthropist Richard Wallace.
On the program? Total immersion in the 18th century, with extras in period costume, festive entertainment and charming Christmas stalls. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about ongoing restoration projects, notably the sacristies of the Royal Chapel at Versailles, for which the funds raised will be earmarked.
Tours last 45 to 60 minutes and take place between 10am and 6pm. Don't delay in booking your magical interlude between culture, history and festivities!
