In the past, what is now the Parc de la Légion d'Honneur in Saint-Denis was the garden of the town's abbey, when monks still lived there. Later, the Legion of Honor's House of Education, a place where young girls whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents had been awarded the Legion of Honor could study, took up residence here. Finally, part of the site was loaned to the city in the 1970s (according to Plaine Commune), before being opened to the general public. A veritable green lung in the heart of the city, the park is a beautiful, relaxing stroll reminiscent of our French forests.
With its 24 hectares of greenery, the park offers a lovely stroll through this forest in the heart of the city. Younger visitors will have hours of fun in the park'shuge playground. Alternatively, take advantage of the beautiful lawns for an open-air picnic on sunny days, read a book in the sun or get lost in the park's green maze! For sports enthusiasts, you can jog or do some aerobic exercise on the fitness trail. Every year in April, this is the venue for the great Saint-Denis Tulip Festival .
The Parc de la Légion d'Honneur is open every day, all year round, with opening times varying from month to month. To get to the park, take line 13 (stop Saint-Denis - Porte de Paris or Basilique de Saint-Denis) or RER D (stop Saint-Denis).
