Built between 2002 and 2021, the Martin Luther King Park was designed around three themes: water, sport and the seasons. The area where the park now stands used to be a railroad track. So it's here that you'll findhuge lawns where you can read in the sun, enjoy an aperitif with friends, picnic when the weather's nice... But also, a very modern belvedere overlooking the whole park, from which you can see the ponds, lawns and huge modern buildings of the Batignolles district.
Between urbanism and nature, the park retains a certain charm and identity of its own, with its more intimate reed paths, its huge (and brilliant) playgrounds for children and teenagers, its skatepark and its basketball court. In the Martin Luther King Park, it's not unusual to come across colonies of ducks and canes, here to pick up the last breadcrumbs from your picnic. And with good reason: the biotope basin (the park's water feature) has been designed to provide a home for many species of local flora and fauna.
Named Martin Luther-King in homage to the American pastor who fought for human rights in the United States during the period of racial segregation, the garden pays tribute to him, as well as to the young Jewish children of the17th arrondissement who died during the deportation.
Since 2022, the park has also been home to HOBA, a committed foodcourt offering a wide range of events throughout the year. Popular with runners, the Parc des Batignolles is easily accessible to baby carriages and wheelchairs, making it a great place to stroll in summer and winter alike!
