In 2021, the Canal Saint-Denis celebrates its 200th anniversary, before the Canal de l'Ourcq in 2022. In 2025, it's the Canal Saint-Martin 's turn to celebrate its bicentenary, with a variety of historical cruises and walks to discover it in a different way! The smallest of Paris's canals, it was inaugurated on November 4, 1825 by Charles X, after sixteen years of construction. A focal point for the 10th and 11th arrondissements, it links the Bassin de la Villette to the Port de l'Arsenal.
Almost 4.5 km long, with a 1,800-meter underground section between Place de la République and Place de la Bastille, the Canal Saint-Martin has nine locks. For a long time, the canal was used for freight traffic, but today only pleasure boats use it for guided cruises. Since 2024, it has been part of Paris Plages, and bathing is possible in summer within a supervised perimeter.
In 2025, and starting today, you'll be able to hop aboard one of our pleasant boats for a stroll on the water, of varying lengths, as well as enjoy guided walks around the heritage and hidden face of the Canal Saint-Martin. It's an opportunity to explore this immense aquatic alleyway, which crosses one end of the capital and offers very different landscapes from one end to the other, all the way to the Seine. Under the famous vaulted tunnel, you'll hear many anecdote, not least about the films that have been shot there, from Ratatouille to Mission Impossible!
