"To do something different from Dersou, to create its antithesis": this was Taku Sekine 's wish when he took over Cheval d'Or. Formerly an Asian establishment located on rue de La Villette in Paris's 19th arrondissement, Taku Sekine 's Cheval d'Or has finally opened its doors.
The concept? A popular, family-run restaurant, with the same high standards of quality that he continues to uphold at Dersou. For those who may have forgotten, Taku Sekine is the man behind Dersou 's success in Paris.
So the famous chef was in the mood for a change. A change that has just come to fruition with the opening of Cheval d'Or, conceived in association with Florent Ciccoli (Au Passage, Café du Coin, Bones, etc.).
Taku Sekine explains: " With fatherhood, desires evolve and it was time for me to create another project at heart, that of a restaurant open to families, with, for example, children playing on the tables and for whom plates will be specially dedicated! ".
So what does this new gourmet address have in store for you? An eclectic menu combining small and large dishes, presented according to cooking methods, seasonings or choice of products (hors d'oeuvres, raw, steamed, fried, flour, sides, noodles, rice, etc.).
A la carte? Beef tartar/tamarind, scallops/yuzu, pointed cabbage/butter, cockles/xiao shin, Taiwanese chicken fit/hot sauce, Brussels sprouts/orange mayonnaise fritters, Katsu Iberico pork/special sauce, garlic broccoli and coleslaw/rice vinegar. All will be served in particularly elaborate containers: Chinese bamboo baskets, traditional French crockery, Japanese containers for green tea...
The venue also offers a wide range of natural sake for tasting.
Come and discover Cheval d'Or by Taku Sekine in the 19th arrondissement.
