A unique plunge into the world of Chinese artist Xinyi Cheng... This is what the Lafayette Anticipations Foundation is offering with its latest exhibition, Seen Through Others, which runs from March 23 to May 28, 2022. The exhibition focuses on"the complexity of emotions, desires and relationships that permeate contemporary life", using"light and color" to express"the intensity of feelings, reveries and presences that make up our daily experience of the world".
An artist committed to the representation of characters, resonating here as"unexpected tributes to the moderns - Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas or Caillebotte", and to others, such as Goya(Saturn devouring one of his children), Cézanne (for his still lifes), and many others. In all, some thirty works awaitcontemporary art lovers, all created between 2016 and 2021, and displayed throughout the building. The particularly original layout invites visitors"to make unprecedented connections and interpretations between the works".
Theexhibition begins with"a series illustrating various domestic and nocturnal situations". Visitors then wander upstairs, discovering works exploring"our metaphysical relationship to the world through the representation of animals and natural forces". And under the immense glass roof on the top floor, the more recent works on display form"an ensemble of characters - humans and dogs - depicted in outdoor spaces".
These works also reflect"the artist's reflections on coexistence with others, but also on what it means to be human". Through"a scintillating use of color", Xinyi Cheng offers"her perspectives on a puzzling world, which provokes so many enigmatic images".
A must-see!
