If you're one of the many admirers of Benjamin Lacombe's work, then the following may well please you! Following exhibitions at Daniel Maghen Gallery and Deyrolle in Paris, the celebrated French illustrator is exhibiting several of his recent gouaches, oils and watercolors at Galerie Gallimard.
Nestled in the capital's 7th arrondissement, this gallery is opening its doors to Benjamin Lacombe, from November 26, 2024 to January 9, 2025, for an exhibition-sale entitled " Papillon noir ".
Papillon noir is also the name of the new collection conceived and directed by Benjamin Lacombe for Éditions Gallimard. The idea? To adapt great literary texts into graphic novels, " blurring the boundaries between book-objects, literature, illustrations and comics ".
Éditions Gallimard has announced the release of its first three titles. The first is " The Portrait of Dorian Gray ", illustrated by Benjamin Lacombe and available from October 30. Written by Oscar Wilde, it is the first book to deal with homosexuality without taboos. Other titles in the Papillon Noir collection? " Carmen " (text by Prosper Mérimée), again with drawings by Benjamin Lacombe, and " Les Sorcières de Venise " (text by Sébastien Perez), a futuristic novel illustrated by Marco Mazzoni.
To mark the release of these titles, Benjamin Lacombe is exhibiting several originals at Galerie Gallimard, including his gouaches, oils and watercolors from "Le Portrait de Dorian Gray ". Marco Mazzoni 's colored pencil and Indian ink creations from " Les Sorcières de Venise " are also on display. As the icing on the cake, previously unpublished illustrations by Isabella Mazzanti and Aron Wiesenfeld from forthcoming books in the Papillon Noir collection are also on display at Galerie Gallimard.
Not to be missed from November 26, 2024 to January 9, 2025, this event also offers art prints for sale throughout the duration of the exhibition. And since admission is free, you'd be wrong not to take advantage.
