Brazilian art on show at the Musée Picasso! From June to September 2025, the Musée Picasso will be hosting an exhibition devoted to Brazilian artist Anna Maria Maiolino. The first retrospective of her work in France, theexhibition, organized as part of the France-Brazil 2025 Season, revisits the career of this major figure incontemporary art, who was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2024. Theexhibition explores the central themes of his work: exile, social and political conditions in Brazil, and questions of gender and censorship.
Anna Maria Maiolino, born in Italy and based in Brazil, has left her mark on the history of art with a body of work that spans a variety of media, including drawing, sculpture, performance and film. A member of the Brazilian New Figuration group, she has worked alongside such figures as Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica. Her works, sometimes using her own body as a support, question the socio-political issues of her time.
Part of a program dedicated to major female artists, initiated by the Musée national Picasso-Paris in 2022, this exhibition follows retrospectives of Farah Atassi, ORLAN and Sophie Calle. Thanks to the support of the artist's gallery and the Institut français, it offers a unique perspective on a body of work at the crossroads of media, between poetry, performance and visual experimentation. An opportunity to discover an essential artist in the panorama of contemporary art.
