The Musée Picasso Paris continues to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, with a new exhibition offering a fresh look at the painter's works. After Célébration Picasso, a new and original itinerary takes over the museum's aisles.
Artist Sophie Calle blends her own world with that of Picasso, presenting a variety of offbeat creations on all four floors of the museum. The exhibition A toi de faire, ma mignonne, organized from October 3, 2023 to January 7, 2024, offers a curious, unexpected and intimate dialogue between the works of the painter and those of the French visual artist. Photographs, drawings, silkscreens, sculptures and installations: the artist lets her creativity do the talking, and tells her own story, inspired by Pablo Picasso's greatest masterpieces.
The exhibition extends throughout the museum's permanent collections. Gradually, a thread, a life, emerges: that of artist Sophie Calle, who questions her relationship to the world and to art. The Frenchwoman exposes her doubts, her sense of imposture in the face of renowned artists such as Picasso. The artist tries to tame these fears: during her confinement, she gradually tames Picasso's masterpieces, making them less intimidating, more accessible.
Family, heritage, the representation of beauty, unfinished projects... Sophie Calle lets us into her innermost thoughts, desires and fears. Mirroring Picasso, the artist takes stock of her life, her convictions and her goals. The question remains: what memory does an artist leave behind for future generations?
A touching and original exhibition, to be discovered this winter at the Musée Picasso.
