Alert to all the nostalgic of the 80's, to those who still cherish their walkman, their bandana or their banana, who are still convinced that fluorescent is fashionable, a great exhibition on the 80 's is waiting for you at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
From October 13 to April 16, 2023, the exhibition"Années 80 : Mode, design et graphisme en France" will take you back to this crazy decade. It must be said that the 80s marked a turning point in all these fields. From the election of François Mitterrand in 1981 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, a lot happened.
On this occasion, it is not less than 700 works composed of objects, furniture, fashion silhouettes, posters, photographs, clips, record sleeves and fanzines that are remembered or revealed to us. Works that show us how eclectic and frenetic this decade was.
Itis in the 80s that we discover a whole flock of talented designers: Olivier Gagnère, Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti, Philippe Starck, Martin Szekely, explode at this time in all freedom.
The same is trueof fashion, where designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler havebecome superstars .
Not to mention theadvertising, graphic design and audiovisual industries, which were enjoying great years with Jean-Paul Goude, Jean-Baptiste Mondino and Etienne Robial. From new-wave music to post-punk and hip-hop, a whole history of partying was written in the legendary places frequented by Parisian night owls .
Of course, the scenography, entrusted to the designer Adrien Rovero, will be faithful to the 80s. We are promised a real mess of colors and shapes. Of course, in the heart of the Nave of the museum, we are likely to take an eyeful.
The exhibition is articulated in 3 themes:
