During the All Saints' Day vacations of 2024, the Jardin des Plantes and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle will be transformed into exploration grounds for the whole family. From October 17 to November 3, young and old alike are invited to discover fascinating exhibitions, creative workshops and animal encounters.

This All Saints' Day, head to the Jardin des Plantes from October 19 to November 3, 2024 for an autumn botanical stroll, but above all, discover the program designed for children and families at the Museum of Natural History and in the garden. Are you ready?

Whether you're learning about the exotic plants of the Grandes Serres, meeting the caretakers of the Menagerie or attending a shadow show, every activity is designed to raise awareness of nature and fill you with wonder about the animal and plant world. It's the ideal way to spend a fun and instructive vacation in the heart of Paris.

The All Saints' Day 2024 program at the Jardin des Plantes:

Automne Tropical exhibition - Drawing botany

In the Grandes Serres, this 4th edition ofTropical Autumn reveals the beauty of botanical illustrations. Visitors will discover rare, colorful plants such as Musella lasiocarpa, and pay tribute to the great explorers and botanical artists. Dates: October 17 to November 25, 2024. Times: every day except Tuesday. Price: €7 to €9.

Les Samedis des petits (ages 3 to 5)

Every Saturday, youngsters can take part in creative workshops, guided tours and screenings specially designed for them:

  • L'atelier des petits: du bout des doigts
    A sensory discovery where children explore the textures of furry, feathered and scaly animals.
    Dates: October 26 and November 2 at 10:30 am.
    Price: payable on reservation.

  • Creative workshops on Douanier Rousseau
    Children are introduced to the art of Douanier Rousseau through painting and collage workshops.
    Dates: October 19 and 26, November 2, December 21 and 28, January 4 at 2:30pm.
    Price: payable on reservation.

  • Projections Pousse Pousse
    Short animations on nature and animals: Les tournesols by R. Lowder, La petite pousse by C. Conversat, and many others.
    Dates: October 19 and November 16 at 10:30 am.
    Price: free, reservation recommended.

A family visit to the Jardin des Plantes

Revivre, extinct animals in augmented reality
An immersive experience in the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution, where extinct creatures such as the dodo and the saber-toothed tiger are brought back to life before our very eyes.

  • Spectacle d'ombromanie
    A shadow show hosted by Philippe Beau, where animals and characters take shape by playing with hands.
    Dates: October 30 and 31 at 4pm.
    Duration: 35 min, ages 4 and up.
    Price: €5, book online or on site.

  • From dinosaurs to mammoths
    A guided tour of the Galerie de Paléontologie, to discover the emblematic fossils of these fascinating creatures.
    Dates: Wednesdays and Sundays at 11 a.m.
    Age: from 6 years, fee on reservation.

  • Animal stories
    A storytelling walk around the famous animals of the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution: Louis XV's rhinoceros, the giant pandas and the giant squid.
    Dates: Mondays and Fridays at 11 a.m.
    Age: 6 and over, fee required.

Meetings with the Menagerie's caretakers

Every day during the vacations, the caretakers share their work and anecdotes about the animals in the Menagerie :

  • Helmeted cassowary: 2:45pm
  • Golden lion tamarin: 15h15
  • Malayan tapir: 15h45

Price: included in admission ticket, subject to weather conditions.

The carnivorous meal

A fascinating experience to observe the feeding of the Menagerie's carnivores, including panthers and other felines.
Dates: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, 30 minutes before closing time.

Don't be afraid!

To help you overcome your fears, this workshop explores phobias around certain often-feared animals, such as snakes and spiders. A program designed to help everyone understand and respect these creatures.

Dates: October 19 to November 2, with hourly sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Duration: 20 min, no reservation required.

For older children

  • Planetary (R)evolution (workshop)
    A playful introduction to the Anthropocene, where children take part in a role-playing game to explore the human impact on nature.
    Dates: Mondays, Fridays and Sundays at 2pm.
    Age: 8 to 12, payable on reservation.

  • Ma petite Grande Galerie - pop-up workshop
    Youngsters create a unique pop-up card depicting emblematic animals from the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution.
    Dates: October 23, 24, 30 and 31 at 2pm.
    Age: 7 to 12, €5 in addition to admission ticket (accompanying adult compulsory).

  • Les fossiles remarquables du Jurassique
    A presentation of Jurassic fossils to better understand the evolution of terrestrial life.
    Dates: daily at 2, 3 and 4 pm.
    Age: from 6 years, included in admission ticket.

  • Herbarium Encounters - Effervescience
    Discover the National Herbarium and its role in plant conservation.
    Age: 8 to 12, free, by reservation.

  • Plant adventures
    A guided tour of the Grandes Serres to observe exotic plants and their use in different cultures.
    Dates: every day from 2pm to 4pm.
    Age: from 6 years, included in admission ticket.

Special Halloween tours

The Menagerie at the Jardin des Plantes is decked out in Halloween colors during the All Saints' vacation, from October 19 to November 3, 2024, presenting its most terrifying animals. Rats, vultures, snakes and spiders await you during a weekend of special, spooky activities.
