Covid: could there be a new wave in the autumn?

In an article published in Le Parisien, Brigitte Autran, President of the Comité de veille et d'anticipation des risques sanitaires (Health Risk Watch and Anticipation Committee), which acts in place of the Scientific Advisory Board, assures us that a new wave of Covids can be expected this autumn.

Living with the virus, and continuing to protect ourselves, is the strategy we've all had to adopt for months now. And this will continue for a long time to come, since a new wave of Covid-19 is expected in the autumn. These are the assertions of Brigitte Autran, President of the Comité de veille et d'anticipation des risques sanitaires, the body recently created to replace the Conseil scientifique. In an interview with the daily Le Parisien, she believes that an"epidemic peak in autumn" is "almost certain" .

For the moment, there's no way of knowing the causes of this possible eighth wave, but the most obvious would be the return of cold weather or a new variant. This is why Brigitte Autran reaffirmed the importance of the vaccine and booster. "The Covid epidemic is not behind us," she added. "Effective treatments to avoid severe forms, such as Paxlovid, are too little known, too little offered to fragile patients."
