As is the case every autumn, one of the events we all look forward to, especially in Paris and the Île-de-France region, is undoubtedly the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days). So, in Paris or in any of the other départements in the region, discover the region's historic monuments, the most beautiful churches and cathedrals in the region, places of power, but also a lesser-known heritage, more industrial, artisanal and just as precious, which you can discover during the guided tours, workshops and other events organized for these very special Journées .
In theEssonne department, the town of Gif-sur-Yvette is best known for its Saclay campus. However, Gif-sur-Yvette is a wonderful destination to discover during the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, with a wealth of relics to discover for the occasion. Located in the Parc Naturel Régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, Gif is a very green town, with beautiful walks starting from its station (RER B). Don't miss out on a visit to one of Gif's many châteaux, including Château de Belleville, a historic gem that tells the story of the region, Château de l'Hermitage and Château du Val Fleury... Science enthusiasts will be delighted by the Université Paris-Saclay campus, a center of excellence that brings together top schools and universities. Between science, nature and heritage, don't miss out on discovering Gif-sur-Yvette during the 2024 European Heritage Days!
Ancienne ferme de l'Abbaye Notre-Dame du Val-de-Gif
Finalists in the Plus Grand Musée de France competition in 2022, the Disette and Abondance statuettes, created at the end of the 19th century, have been beautifully restored, enabling us to appreciate every detail: the iconography and style of execution of the sculptures are far removed from the industrial and classical standards of the time, making them a truly original composition. What's more, the two Latin ceramic inscriptions beneath the sculptures are the work of Jules Loebnitz, a renowned ceramist and earthenware maker of the second half of the 19th century. While the identity of the sculptor has not been established, it is now certain that the composition was commissioned by Juliette Adam, a well-known 19th-century woman of letters and owner of the premises at the time.
Following on from the inauguration, discover the history of the former Notre-Dame du Val de Gif Abbey through the exhibition "Once upon a time, the Abbey", as well as an exceptional exhibition of coats of arms created by pupils from the Abbey school: based on the coat of arms of the former abbey, which inspired the town's current coat of arms, the pupils created their own coat of arms following the rules of heraldry.
The CGT training center, named the Benoît Frachon Center in 1975, is located on the site of the former Courcelle mill, of which all that remains today is the "Manoir", which has undergone a number of transformations over the years. In 1948, the CGT acquired the site and transformed it into a center dedicated to trade union education, organizing training courses and evening or weekend classes, in a verdant setting enhanced by several works of art, within which various buildings with a resolutely original architecture were constructed to accommodate trainees.

A poet of paths, coppices and cicadas, Jean Noël Mistral's notebooks contain some of his best poems. In any case, the best.
Barefoot vagabond, traveler on a thread, shepherd of flies, cowherd of turtle-doves, isolated in his raft of solitude in the woods since a troubled adolescence, Jean Noël will tell us things, in his voice that croons like a hobbled old goat on a peak and runs aground. This fragile voice, with its imperceptible, knife-edge accent, like a trickle of pure water, splashes villages and villagers with a sweet dew.
A naive poet, straight as an e or an n or a v, washed out of all modernity, he will grasp, delicate, with his long, aged child's fingers, those who have time, and put them down somewhere, in the arms of a river, or in a phantasmagorical mist. Or who knows where...
So, come on.
" Don't feed the poet"
The character of Jean-Noël Mistral was created for Edouard Baer's Radio Nova morning show "Plus près de toi" (2016-2018)
As part of the Encore les Beaux Jours festival, organized by the Communauté d'Agglomération Paris-Saclay and coordinated by the Animakt association.
Eglise Saint-Rémy Saint-Jean-Baptiste
A blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, this charming 11th-century church was remodeled in the 19th century and restored to its original appearance in the 1980s. Listed on the Inventaire supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques, it also boasts a wealth of statuary and remarkable paintings.
ENS Paris Saclay
As part of the European Heritage Days and the Encore les beaux jours festival, Scène de recherche invites you to discover ENS Paris-Saclay through the prism of dance and circus.
Two beings in turn, jostled, collided, propelled by a destiny that imposes itself on them: exile. Their game is action, the kind that keeps us going, whatever the cost. The play is written from start to finish, like an inescapable thread, a destiny that cannot be diverted from its course. Une Jungle is an attempt, a poetic statement, an urgent need to use dance to support this first step towards the other.
Open-air performance on the forecourt of ENS Paris-Saclay.
As part of the European Heritage Days, Scène de Recherche invites you to discover ENS Paris-Saclay through the prism of the circus:
Vincent de Lavenère, a pioneer of musical juggling, never ceases to amaze us with his all-round solo show for young and old. Accompanied by a multitude of sound balls, he transports us into a world of poetry and fantasy. With virtuosity, he juggles to the sound of birdsong, bells and mountain melodies. This musical and poetic stroll through the gardens of ENS Paris-Saclay will be followed by a large snack.

L'Or du Temps, illumination workshop
I embarked on an immense journey towards illumination, an age-old, sacred, patient and meticulous art that has its roots in the very heart of the Middle Ages. During this journey, I discovered nautical charts or portulans that evoke adventure, the open sea with its perils, but also fabulous discoveries. We'll set off to discover worlds known, unknown or imaginary, based on the fabulous nautical charts of the Middle Ages. We'll invent new territories by combining elements from ancient maps.

Val Fleury Park
A journey through the history of dance
Happy Manif (parallel feet) is an enchanted choreographic stroll, a life-size role-playing game dedicated to choreographers who have used nature as a source of inspiration since the end of the 19th century. Evolving in the beautiful setting of the Val Fleury park, guided by the soundtrack broadcast through headphones and two dancers, participants will travel through the history of dance: from Romantic ballet to contemporary dance improvisations and the eccentric performances of post-modern dance pioneers, all with feet parallel!
An original, interactive show not to be missed!
Inaugurated in 1976, this building with its resolutely original architecture houses the "library-play library for all"; it was built as part of the "Mille clubs de Jeunes" program initiated by François Missoffe, Minister of Youth and Sports, in 1967. Lightweight prefabricated facilities, delivered in kit form, dedicated to welcoming young people, were set up in 2,600 communes at the time. Half of them still exist today, and some have been awarded the "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture" label.
Come and discover the history of this small community library during guided tours.
Place du Chapitre
Discover the fascinating history of the Abbaye district, named after the former Benedictine abbey on whose land it was built.
For six centuries, the Notre-Dame du Val de Gif abbey has left its mark on the history of the commune. Its existence is mentioned as early as the 12th century in a letter of patent from King Louis VII the Younger. In the 17th century, its rapprochement with Jansenism led to its disgrace and disappearance during the French Revolution. Sold as national property, it was gradually dismantled.
In 1882, the famous writer Juliette Adam became its owner. She gave it a new lease of life with her numerous parties, which attracted the "Tout-Paris". Juliette Adam died in 1936, and the land of the former abbey was promised for sale.
In the 1960s, the town council decided to build a complex of multi-family and single-family dwellings on the vast plot of land that used to be the abbey's kitchen garden.
