The Journées du Patrimoine 2024 will be held on September 21 and 22 across France and in other European countries. This year's event will focus on "Living Heritage", celebrating skills and traditions, and "Sports Heritage", in connection with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As every year, thousands of monuments, museums and historic sites will open their doors offering guided tours, exhibitions and special events, enabling visitors to discover the cultural and historical wealth of the regions. The Fondation Dosne-Thiers is a cultural institution located in Paris, in the Saint-Georges district, at 27 place Saint-Georges. It occupies the neoclassical mansion that was once the residence of Adolphe Thiers, the first president of the Third French Republic. The Foundation, created at the end of the 19th century, houses an extensive library specializing in 19th-century French history, with a particular focus on the period of the French Revolution and the Second Empire. The Fondation Dosne-Thiers is also a research center and a venue for cultural events, conferences and exhibitions related to history and heritage, which you can visit freely during the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, as well as talk to academics present for the occasion.
Presentation of the Fondation
The Fondation Dosne-Thiers hotel, owned by the Institut de France, was bequeathed in 1905 by Félicie Dosne, sister-in-law of Adolphe Thiers, to create a library devoted to 19th-century French history, which now welcomes students and researchers in a setting eminently conducive to study.
The Fondation is home to the Centre de recherches humanistes (Fondation Thiers), which awards grants to young doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences.
The Hôtel de la Fondation boasts vast, elegant rooms with natural daylight, enabling prestigious events to be held.
