If it weren’t always undergoing renovations, Paris wouldn’t be Paris! A large plan about renovating Paris heritage is going to transform many buildings and adapt them to new visit conditions.
From the summer 2018 (and until the fall 2019!) the Museum of Modern Art will be full of workers taking care of transforming the lobby, the catering area and the bookstore, in other words, the areas annexing exhibition rooms.
This is why the museum will remain open during renovations. The idea is to “find the original architecture of the building like it’s been thought in 1937”. At the helm, the H2O agency, specialized in restoration of Historic Monuments gets involved alongside with design specialist Studio GGSV (Gaëlle Gabillet & Stéphane Villard).
The temporary entrance will be located in Quai de New York, across the building which is the historical entrance of the museum.
In short, you should be patient! And in the meantime, enjoy the renovation-free museum by admiring works in the exhibitions of Jean Fautrier and of Mohamed Bourouissa.
