This Sunday March 17, 2019 Saint Patrick’s Day will be celebrated a bit everywhere across the world. As it happens every year, about 300 emblematic sites and buildings in the world will go green for a night on the occasion of the Global Greening. Started ten years ago by Tourism Ireland, this massive and popular movement consists in celebrating worldwide the Irish national day.
In addition to the Roman coliseum, the Niagara Falls or even the Rio Christ the Redeemer statue, several main places in France will be covered in green such as La Croisette in Cannes.
In our dear French capital, the Irish Embassy, the Galeries Lafayette, the Drugstore Publicis, the Centre Culturel Irlandais, the Beaugrenelle shopping mall, the Château de la Muette (OECD HQ) and even Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland Paris will take part in the event.
As for Paris La Défense Arena, it will take part in the celebrations for the first time! Barely a year after its opening, Paris La Défense Arena has indeed decided to give green pride of place for several days.
From March 14 to 17, 2019 the 592 giant scales covering the façade of the world’s second biggest arena will be lit in green for two hours every night.
Through this event, Paris La Défense Arena wishes to show how dear Ireland is to its heart since it’s the country with which it shares a common passion: rugby of course.
And to top it all, Paris La Défense Arena holds an Instagram contest. To try and win a basket filled with typically Irish produces, take a picture of yourself in front of Paris La Défense Arena lit in green and follow @TourismeIrlandais page and share your picture on your page with the #StPatrickEnVert hashtag.
