This Sunday August 25, 2019 take part in a Liberty Parade to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. Alongside period military and civilian vehicles follow the steps of the 2nd Armored Division of the General Leclerc as they entered Paris on August 25, 1944!

Let’s rely on an observation, shall we: the Liberation of Paris is a historic event many of us only saw in videos or photos. Yes, time passes and it’s been already 75 years since Paris has been liberated and to remember this moment, the Mairie de Paris organizes a parade of period vehicles, from the Place du 25 août 1944 – the very place where Leclerc and his men entered Paris on August 25, 1944.

The parade will cover the Avenue du Général Leclerc before arriving at the Place Victor et Hélène Basch where archive pictures will be screened. The arrival is planned for 4 p.m. at Denfert-Rochereau where the jazz band that would have accompanied you musically all along the parade will play one more time.

You’re invited – if you want to – to come as dressed as that time to take part in the parade. Moreover, the inhabitants and shopkeepers of the neighborhoods involved are invited – if they want to – to bedeck their balconies and terraces with the French flag as they did at the Liberation.

Many other events are planned on this commemorative day such as the French flag being hosted on the Eiffel Tower by the Pompiers de Paris on August 25, 1944 and more festive, the screening of the movie “La Traversée de Paris” starring Jean Gabin, Bourvil and Louis de Funès in the lounges of the city hall.

A few days later, on August 27, 2019, contemporary history fans are expected for the grand opening of the brand-new Musée de la Libération de Paris – Musée du Général Leclerc.
