Despite confinement measures implemented to all French because of the coronavirus epidemic, Good Friday will be celebrated, on Friday April 10, 2020, in the cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris.
It’s the capital’s archbishop Monsignor Michel Aupetit who has confirmed the religious service is sustained to BFMTV, adding it would happen in very restricted committee.
At first, Monsignor Michel Aupetit planned the traditional procession, but “it’s no longer possible obviously” because of confinement. The liturgical ceremony will take place “inside the cathedral”.
“We will meditate on major texts along with professional actors such as Philippe Torreton, Judith Chemla… And there will be music as an accompaniment, Renaud Capuçon agreed to come over and perform” Monsignor Michel Aupetit explained to BFMTV. The Stations of the Cross will focus on the “Crown of thorns”
“A short veneration will follow, as well as a very short meditation from myself” the archbishop says. According to him, it “enables people to come and let this message of French tradition” inside the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, one year after the fire that widely damaged it.
The religious office will air live on Friday April 10 from 11:30 a.m. (CEST) on BFMTV.
