While Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has announced the distribution of 2.2 million fabric masks in mid-May, and it will be possible to buy protective masks from tobacconists from May 4, many people are wondering how to get hold of these famous consumer masks while waiting for their distribution.
A store selling African fabrics and loincloths in Paris has decided to help the local population in this health crisis. Its name? Barakatou. Located in the capital's 18th arrondissement, this is not the first time this business has set up shop. The store has already distributed 400 masks to police, firefighters and ambulance crews.
From Monday, April 27, 2020, Barakatou will be looking after the protection of the general public, offering Parisians 500 reusable masks made from wax.
" Our business has been at a standstill since the beginning of the containment, so we decided to do our bit and help our fellow citizens in this difficult period," store manager Musa Faty told Le Parisien.
So, how do you go about snapping up one of these 500 masks? The free distribution will take place from April 27 to May 11, Monday to Friday, from 5pm to 6.30pm, while respecting security measures. First come, first served!
And for latecomers who don't manage to get their hands on one? Store manager Musa Faty tells Le Parisien that the boutique will be offering to " make them free of charge, from fabric brought in by customers ".
