As markets are slowly reopening in Paris, Paris city hall gives fruits and vegetables to the poorest homes. This is the “Paniers des essentiels” operation successfully launched this Saturday April 25, 2020. The idea? 10 kilos of fruits and vegetables for €20 to keep on eating properly!

Tweet reads: “First morning sales in 11th and 18th, prior registrations (in social centers of your arrondissement) of our “Panier des essentiels” with fruits and vegetables for Parisian with very low incomes at the moment €20/10kgs.”
Baskets made in advance thanks to associations and in Rungis that sold products for a lesser cost. At the Jules-Noël gymnasium at Porte de Vanves, over 500 baskets filled with zucchinis, bell peppers, eggplants, potatoes, oranges, bananas… for a very challenging price.
Interviewed by Le Parisien, Anne Hidalgo deputy mayor entrusted with commerce matters, Olivia Polski said: “there was a social emergency […] we started to have feedbacks as for the increase of the prices of fruits and vegetables in stores. We saw the needs. There are many families and people whose incomes just collapsed”.
The “Paniers des essentiels” will go on, Paris deputy mayor says, but elsewhere. On Tuesday, distributions are planned in the 13th, 17th and 19th arrondissements and in all arrondissements in turn. To enjoy one of those baskets, do not hesitate and call (+33)3975 to sign up for the next sale in your neighborhood.
