Coronavirus will not have the best of your summer holidays in the sun! Greek and Italian governments have announced they were getting ready to reopen their airports this summer to welcome European tourists again.

A will to welcome tourists despite coronavirus… Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced he wanted to relaunch the tourism season this June 15 to help the country’s economy recover, as it relies a lot on the sector. “The tourism period begins June 15, when seasonal hotels can reopen, and direct international flights to our tourist destinations will gradually begin July 1” he said, adding that the air lanes will yet not open right away.

A country not hit too badly by covid-19 or at least less impacted than its neighbors, that is yet making heavy measures to guarantee inhabitants’ health safety: “Our weapon is the passport of security, reliability and health that our country has won.” Kyriakos Mitsotakis explains. Tests are also planned for tourists entering the country.

Greece is not the only country to open to tourists again since Italy, through the Minister of Transport and Infrastructures, Paola De Micheli, has announced to reopen airports from June 3rd: “It will be possible to proceed with the reopening of all airports from June 3rd, when inter-regional and international transfers will again be allowed” she said in front of MPs. Italy, the first European country to have been hit by coronavirus, is just starting to phase out after three tiring months of fighting.

Three hard months that have changed the country’s economy, this is why welcoming foreign tourists, especially from Europe, is essential and lifesaving. “Come on holiday in Italy” Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio said to the German press. He continued: “Come and visit our beaches, our sea, our mountain communities, enjoy our cuisine. We are ready to welcome you with our smile.” He concludes: “From mid-June until September it will be possible to travel to Italy without problems, in safety and freedom.” If you were looking for a summer vacation destination…
