As France is starting phase 2 of its containment exit scheme, Institut Pasteur epidemiologist Pr. Arnaud Fontanet said on BFMTV that 4.5 million French might have been infected by Covid-19 since the health crisis started.

Starting from June 2, 2020 France will enter the very expected phase 2 of its containment exit. From that day, restaurants, cafés, and bars can reopen in green area. In orange area, like Paris and the rest of Île-de-France, only terraces are allowed to open. The 100-km limit is also lifted. A relief for many French people, impatient to be free again. But we must recall that the novel coronavirus is still here. Moreover, 109 clusters have been reported in France since lockdown has been lifted, naming May 11.

Among these 109 clusters, “64% including over 5 cases. […] They include people in need and vulnerable mostly (19% in social and insertion centers, and 6% in vulnerable communities), health centers (22%), and more widely companies (20% private and public companies” the Health Agency said.

As of Pr. Arnaud Fontanet, epidemiologist at Paris Institut Pasteur, he said on June 1 on BFMTV that 4.5 million French might have been infected by Covid-19. For the record, 28,802 people have died in France of Covid-19 since the health crisis broke out.

Across the world, over six million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus. As of today, Latin America is the main area where the disease progresses, with over one million cases reported as of May 31, according to a toll shared by the Agence France Presse.
